About Jim Huntsman

Jim is a lifelong Western hunter. His passion for the outdoors has taken him across multiple states in pursuit of everything from screaming bull elk to cutthroat trout on a fly rod.

Jim grew up in Utah and joined the US Marines as a rifleman. There he spent time stationed in North Carolina, and served in Kosovo, Africa, and the Iraq War. After the Marines, Jim moved to North Idaho where he met his wife, Nicole. Together, they have two daughters and are raising them on a 26 acre homestead.

Concerned for the future of hunting, Jim began writing for the hunting industry in 2016. In 2018, The Western Huntsman was started as a platform to write and share ideas with the sportsman community. During September archery season of 2019, Jim killed a nice bull elk that tumbled down a rock face after the arrow had a full pass-through. This broke several tines off the antlers, and upon discovery, he dubbed him the Broken Tines bull and inspired him to take the next step in the hunting space.

On Christmas Eve of 2019, Jim launched the first podcast episode of The Western Huntsman and named his podcast studio after that season's bull... The Broken Tines Studio.

Today, The Western Huntsman Podcast is a top rated show with thousands of weekly downloads worldwide. With over 150 episodes, it is home to the wildly popular "School of September" series focused on archery elk hunting, and the "Dashboard Hunting Mentor" series designed for new hunters. Jim is dedicated to protecting the future of hunting and defending it against the fanatical anti-hunting community.

Jim is unapologetic in his principles, and fearless in his approach to defend them.

The Western Huntsman is proudly partnered with Eastmans Hunting Journals!
